Giving new hopes to the Malayalam Film Industry, which revolved around the superstar flicks and themes of boredom in 2008, the first release of 2009-Debutant Sohanlal's Orkkuka vallapozhum is a new experience which reminds us about the nostalgic Golden age of malayalam cinema. The movie is definitely a different and brave attempt by the directotr and belongs to the category of class movies which happens varyrarely now a days.
The story revolves around Sedhumadhavan (Thilakan) who is a retired school teacher and a widower. when once Sedhumadhavan returns to his old village, he tries to find out his childhood girlfriend Paru. Here the film unfolds sweet and nostalgic love story in his teenage days, which will create a melancholy feeling among the viewer.Newcomer Shilpabala's above the par performance makes Paru a memorable chaarcter and VeteranThilakans intrepretation to Sethumadhavan's old age is a delight to watch.
Sohanlal marked the entry of a promising director and instead of going behind Superstars for a big-budget commercial entertainer, this young man came out with a heart-touching, small cute film. Hats Off to Sohanlal for the soft and touchy treatment whichwill pierce into the mind of the viewer.M.J. Radhakrishnan's cinematography is good and is a highlight of the movie. The songs will stay in your memory for quite some time. The script-writer, who happens to be the director himself, needs to be appreciated for the manner in which he blends the past and the present in a single frame. But at the same time he has to take blame for tending to be excessively romantic, which lends an air of artificiality to some of the scenes and which may very well disappoint the audience of today.
Trust my words, it is a haunting and lovely experience!!!
Verdict: Good
