Karyasthan

Dileep's 100th film 'Karyasthan' is a typical Dileep-Sibi K Thomas-UdayaKrishna slapstick comedy entertainer with story & situations that has been told umpteen number of times which even reminds you of Dileep's movies like Udayapuran Sultan, Pandipada etc. The basic story line is a straight lift from Vijay's yesteryear blockbuster-Poove Unakagu.
Karyasthan is all rivalrly between two families headed by Madhu & GK Pillai, once happily lived together like one family till an incident created a rift between them. After several years, Dileep comes as a karyasthan and the efforts taken by him to reunite them forms the rest of movie. There is enough fun, sentiments, romance and necessary ingredients to make it a full-fledged commercial entertainer.
Right from the word go, Karyasthan is highly predictable but what makes the movie to a somewhat time-pass affair is because of the comedy factor especially from the trio of Dileep-Suraj-Salim Kumar who brings the house down with some funny moments. With huge number of star cast appearing in almost every frame including the songs, Karyasthan has enough color to create a mind set among the viewers to feel like watching a festival.
In his 100th movie, Dileep played safe by portraying the typical janapriyanayakan role and as expected did well but is nowhere near to his stealer performances in Kalyanaraman or Thenkashipatanam. Suraj steals the show with comic one-liners even though many looked jaded and repetitive. Salim Kumar and Janardhanan were also able to create laughter and other notable performances were from Madhu, GK Pillai and Siddique. In her debut, Akhila looked good and danced well. Biju Menon, Ganesh Kumar, Nishanth Sagar, Suresh Krishna, Shammi Thilakan and many other actors could not make any impact due to less screen space.
Script from Sibi K Thomas -UdayaKrishna is cliched to the core but still they were able to keep the screenplay tight because of the commercial aspect just like they have in other movies. Director Thomson tried his best to keep the movie racy and he just stuck to the basics as a debutant in direction. Music was strictly average even though Mangalam song went well with the festival mood of movie. Action sequence, BGM and other aspects does not have anything much to be boasted.
With duration being close to 3 hours, Karyasthan atleast needs 10-15 minutes of trimming. It is strictly a one-time watchable outing and go for it if you are not expecting any freshness.
Verdict: Watchable
