Mohanlal's highly hyped stylish action thriller "Casanova-The Messenger of love" directed by Roshan Andrews, is all style and no substance!"This film promised to be the mother of all stylish films made in India. But sadly, director Roshan Andrews clearly lacks a story and the skills required to turn that idea into an engaging film.
There is a sense of déjà as Roshan has rehashed certain scenes, locations and characters from old films, and the end product looks like it has fallen off straight from the assembly line of stylized bollywwod movies. Mohanlal looks dapper in stylishly trimmed beard and hairdo. He carries himself well. One just wishes that his character was given more depth instead of an external makeover. Most others in the cast have delivered usual performances.
Jim Ganesh as a cinematographer has also played his part to make the movie better, with his brilliant visual aesthetics. He seems to have a special proclivity for wide and low angles and hardly lit interiors, and loud and contrasting BG scores. Gopisundar has worked hard on the rerecording and his songs too suit the films moods, but the some songs come up as a speed breaker.
Even though the movie designed in the assembly line of stylized movies of Bollywood, lacks a consistent flow in narratives and is a little slimmer in content, Roshan definitely needs to be appreciated for trying something of this sort of visual splendor for the Kerala Audiences. Considering the quality of movies churned out in Molly wood these days,''Casanova, The messenger of Love'', must be definitely promoted for the visually of making, rather than for its thematic content.
Verdict: Disappointing
