Snehaveedu -Review

Sathyan Anthikad, the biggest brand name in Malayalam cinema after the superstars, is certainly in no mood to take chances. Reviewing Snehaveedu is not like reviewing just any other film, because it comes from Satyan Anthicaud, a director who has given us many memorable movies. But coming from Satyan Anthicaud, Innathe Chinthavishayam appears to be rather unimpressive. Though the film is not bad, it doesn't seem to rise to one's expectations.
The story revolves around Ajayan (Mohanlal), who, after having tried his luck in different cities around the world, comes back to his village to look after his ageing mother Ammukutty Amma (Sheela) and to get her love and the nostalgia of his growing up years. There, he starts a company for producing agricultural equipments and earns his living as a farmer. The twists and turns that occur in Ajayan’s life make up the story of the film.
The first half of the film is a rollicking and funny, while the second half drags as Sathyan repeats the gags he has already shown in the first half. The film has no story, as it is string together by a series of incidents. All the characters are strong, while the males are all weak in comparison. Mohanlal ooze sincerity and he is the pivot around which the film revolves, and his ability to bring his character vibrantly to life with all the nuances of tenderness and humour at his disposal, is reason enough to see this film. Rahul Pillai has given matured performance. Biju Menon, Innocent, K.P.S.C Lalitha, Lena, Chembil Ashokan have all done their part well.
Ilayaraja's music is melodious, though picturisation is a carbon copy of Sathyan's earlier films. The film moves fast. Venu’s camera and editing by Rajagopal are fine as usual.Snehaveedu has its flaws but it must be watched because it is able to recreate the Sathyan magic which our families love.
Verdict:watchable
