‘Puthiya Mugham’ is a well made film from a director, Diphan. The film has all the elements to make it a better hit. It has a neatly laid out plot, well written dialogues, punching sequences and good action. Even though the film has all in a little overdoses, this is the one which really don't bore you too much. The film is typically made in a much tried and tested commercial campus plot which caters to youth section of audience. And the rest of its performance in box office largely lies in the crowd pulling capacity of Prithviraj as a hero. That is, the film is a test of his popularity.
Puthiya Mugham tells the story of Krishna kumar alias kichu, who gets changed with his admission in an engineering college in Kochi. There he meets Anjana (Priyamani) and Sudhi (Bala), whose marriage are almost fixed. With their company blossoming up, Sudhi did not like the friendship between kichu and Anjana ,Slowly which create abrupt changes in Krishnakumar's life. These unexpected happenings heavily change the life of all of them, making them to takes new face.
The highlight of the movie is definitely the scripts and dialogues by Sindhuraj. The director shows his inexperience in many scenes of the first half, but ends it up as a pretty mass, commercial product. Prithivraj (kichu) has given a superb performance as campus boy, though Bala as sudhi does not get much scope in the film. Priyamani as Anjana makes an eye candy appearance while Meera nandan , NedumudiVenu, Sayikumar, Jagadish, Suraj , Shammi Tilakan make their usual presence.
Cinematography, editing and art-work are in tune with the mood and the tempo of the film. And so is the background music by Deepak Dev. Director Diphan and scenarist Sindhuraj have worked well as a team. They have succeeded in blending mass entertainment with action. The film is above average and presents the clash of ideals in a lighter vein while focusing strongly on campus relationships. The film may not be turn out to be a big hit but is enjoyable
Verdict: Racy
