After receiving high critical acclaim from 'Paleri Manikam' and also grabbing many prestigious awards including State award, Ranjith- Mammootty team is back with another interesting subject with Pranchiyetan & The Saint- a comedy satire.
As the title says, the movie starts off with a conversation between Pranchiyetan and the Saint where Pranchi (Mammootty) narrates his story one by one to the Saint in a church. C.Francis aka Pranchi, rich businessmen, is commonly being known as Aripranchi because of their traditional work.Pranchi hates his nickname and tries his level-best to get rid off it with the help of Menon (Innocent) by starting a Jewelery shop, doing charity works and even Pranchi goes to the extend of grabbing a Padmasree by throwing money to politicians, but all results in vain. The story-track takes a deviation as soon as Pranchi meets Pauli(master Vinayakan of Vinoyadayatra fame) who is a 10th standard school student.
The story is simple and straight from the heart, while it is the breezy narration that works along with good performances from the lead cast. The first half is completely hilarious with superbly placed situational comedies rather than forced upon slap-stick stuffs which you commonly see in current genre of movies. Post-interval, it gets serious even though humorous moments still existed and drags a bit here and there, but at the end it looked good with a fine climax.
What makes Pranchiyetan to a higher level is because of the knock-out performance from Mammootty. He is the life & soul of the movie and steals the show completely with a pure natural performance. Innocent takes us back to Siddique-Lal days and proved his comic timing is not all lost, his combination scenes with Mammootty brings the house down.PriyaMani has been wasted in an under developed character while Kushboo and Siddique scores in their limited scenes. Tiny Tom, Jagathy, master Vinayakan, Idavela Babu, Biju Menon, Jayaraj Warrier and other supporting cast were ok and does not get much of a scope to perform. Special mention to the Australian actor who enacted the Saint character and Ranjith's dubbing perfectly suited him.
With a simple story line and an ordinary script, it is Ranjith's beautiful direction that makes this movie to a cool entertainer. The way it is narrated and presented is fantastic and a big applause for exploiting Mammootty's talent once again after Paleri Manikam's gem of a performance. Ousepachan's songs were ok, but the BGM blended well with the mood of the movie.
Overall, Pranchiyetan & the Saint is worth watching for it's freshness and if you are a lover of good movies without any fights, punch dialogs, over dose of heroism and other masala stuffs- this is your cup of tea.
Verdict: A feel-good Entertainer
