Now here’s something for all those who have never had enough of the Ekta essayed soaps and the family drama that came out of the eighties. Director B Unnikrishnan has attempted quite amateurishly to recreate an age old family saga in the Chinese year of the Golden tiger.
Viswanatha Panikkar (Mammootty) is the president of Thazekeezhpadam panchayath, who has amassed big wealth and land documents by means best known to him, in the names of his cousin brother Somasekharan Panikkar and sister Thankamani, whose family has reared him in his forgettable meek days of childhood. Panikkar is said to have become corrupt and ruthless due to his orphaned shady childhood, which has propagated ideas in him about becoming a front runner with immense wealth.
Panikkar has been making all his monetary dealings through his cousin brother, Soman (Siddique). The duo get involved in selling out 100 acres of land for a tech- park, to an infamous Multinational company, for a bribe of 12.5 crores. Panikkar is forced for a second thought as this will end the lush green paddy lands and agriculture of the beautiful village. He decides to go back from the agreement, paying back the amount that he has already received.
Somasekharan now changes his stance and declares that Panikkar has got nothing as his own if he defers from the agreement reached with the company. Realizing that what he believed to be his own for years was never his own, Panikkar is determined to change for good. The most that’s worked for Pramani is Mammotty’s presence. The megastar has helped the otherwise mediocre tale grab some attention.Unnikrishnan sticking to his good old books of direction too in a way seems to have helped Pramani not derail from its track of narration
Unnikrishnan could have handled his star cast better and churned out more than the usual performancesMammootty is as usual, while one would have hoped to see the talented actor take on a challenging role. Unnikrishnan could have had more out of the actor.Sneha as the Panchayat secretary is just like the frame of a freedom fighter you spot in a cop station.Siddique is not all that bad while the rest of the cast seems to have been wasted.Watch Pramani if you are a Mammotty fan or someone who likes family dramas the 80’s style
