'Malaravadi Arts club' is singer-come-actor Vineeth Sreenivasan's first attempt as a director and showed the courage to do it with new comers in the lead roles. When an actor like Dileep was ready to produce it , Vineeth grabbed the opportunity with both hands and was able to make a mark in his debut.
It narrates the story about 5 friends-Prakashan, Praveen, Purushu, Santosh and Kuttu who are the members of Malarvadi Arts Club. They don't have any goals to achieve and just take life as it is until their mentor Kumarettan(Nedumudi Venu) creates an alarm in their hidden musical talent. Things gets worse between their bondage when Santhosh wins a reality show star singer.
Trying out a story that has been inspired from Farah Khan's hindi movie 'Rock On' , Vineeth Sreenivasan was able to create some freshness in malayalam, which is a rarity these days, and does not disappoint being the son of ace script-writer and actor Sreenivasan. Screenplay could have been a bit better as it becomes easily predictable post-interval.
The new fresh 5 faces impresses and each of them has an identity even though Prakshan plays the lead role. Kuttu is really funny and steals the show from comedy kings like Jagathy, Suraj, Salim Kumar and Kottayam Nazeer. Nedumudi Venu scores and Janardhanan was fine, but the 2 new heroines does not get enough screen space to showcase their talent.
Music which plays an important part in the movie does not meet the expectations and Shaan Rahman's songs are pretty ordinary even though visually it blends well with the situation. P. Sukumar's cinematography is nothing special and other aspects like BGM, editing are just ok.
On the whole, Malarvadi Arts Club is a fine one-time watch and Vineeth Sreenivasan has packaged it smartly with young guns firing right from the word go.
