IG -Review

How long Malayalam cinema will sustain upon political thriller which is nothing but a rehash of rehashes which includes corrupted politicians, police officers who will bend it's like anything in front or petty dollars and the new deal that is terrorism. A usual story line which revolves around an IG (Durga prasad by suresh) - Thank god, this time scriptwriter given a promotion to IG.
After the successful film Madambi starred Mohanlal, director B. Unnikrishnan's latest cop movie I.G. is precisely what you would normally imagine from its guide actor Suresh Gopi! As projected, everything has already been seen before in so many movies in the same genre and even Suresh Gopi repeats himself for the umpteenth time in this run-of-the-mill action police story told in a rather snappish manner

Once again Suresh Gopi lead the agitator police officer named Durgaprasad IPS (Suresh Gopi), a typical firebrand cop who happens to intercept people who are bringing in cash through hawala to fund terrorist activities. It is brought to the attention of the State Chief Minister (Rajan P. Dev) and as a promotion, Durgaprasad is posted as the head of the Anti Terrorist Squad (ATS), resolute to decimate every last bit of an extremist attack in the capital.

The story starts with a bomb explosion in Thiruvananthapuram Chalai Bazaar. Durgaprasad chooses his aides (Vijayraghavan, Jagathy and Kiran Raj) and starts the hunt for the culprits behind the blast, including the State Home Secretary, Paul Joseph ( Sreeraman). Durgaprasad follows the trail of the terrorists, which leads him to the doorsteps of some of the most powerful people in the state, including ex-minister and prominent politician Beeran Kutty Sahib (Sai Kumar) and the City Police Commissioner Vijay Bhaskar. Meanwhile, Durgaprasad's younger brother (Govind Padmasurya) falls madly for a Muslim girl (Anitha Nair), who happens to be the only daughter of Beeran Kutty Sahib! All these lead to a great twist in the climax.

The attraction of this Suresh Gopi starred is the climax twist laced with sentiments and punch lines. Suresh Gopi has done his part well as Durgaprasad. Asheesh Vidyarthi, Sai Kumar, Subair, Devan and Rajan P. Dev also have done their roles pretty good. However, Vijayaraghavan as Vakkachan done his usual part, not because of his performance, but his character doesn't offer much scope. The same is in the case with Jagathy Sreekumar as Damodaran Pillai, which also has nothing to do in the film.

The only song in the film could have been avoided. Cinematography of Shyam Dutt is better in some parts and clichéd in some were. The technical aspects gel with the theme. All in all, I.G., though the story and situations are all 'old wine in new bottle, like a usual potboiler of Suresh Gopi movies but Unikrishan’s crispy direction will to made a worth watch.

Verdict:Watchable
