‘Mammootty has the uncanny knack of introducing new directors and almost all of them started off on a promising note and went onto become one of the hot directors in Malayalam industry now which includes Lal Jose, Blessy, Anwar Rasheed and the list goes on. Sohan Seenulal is the latest addition to the list with his debut venture with Mammootty in “Doubles”.

Mammootty(Giri) plays the twin brother of Nadia Moidu(Gouri), who lose their parents in an accident and later they start to run a rescue unit in Pondichery to save and help the accident met victims. In one such case, they save Tapasee(Adukalam fame) and becomes a member of their house. What follows is a highly predictable sequences of events mixed with all the necessary ingredients needed for a commercial entertainer.

With fine set of actors from Mammootty, Nadia Moidu, Salim Kumar, Suraj playing the lead roles and a above all a perfect vacation to utilize maximum collections, Director Sohan Seenulal wasted a golden opportunity to make a mark in Malayalam Cinema in his debut itself.  Script-write duo Sachi-Sethu comes up with a descent plot but the screenplay goes wayward in second half and with poor execution from the director, the movie lands up no where.

A legend like Mammootty has nothing to showcase as an actor as well as a star in Doubles and the handsome actor does not even look good in awkward hairstyle. Nadia Moidu makes a forgettable comeback to Malluwood unfortunately and Tapasee just looked cute but not expressive at all. Salim Kumar is the only saving grace with some comic one-liners here and there while Suraj and Biju Kutan were unbearable with their buffoonery act. James Vasanth’s music makes it worse and one definitely expected good songs from him after tuning evergreen the chartbuster ‘Kangal Irandal’.

The only positive that can be considered is the watchable first half due to some light hearted moments. Overall, Doubles is a total let-down and you can watch it if you have some time to spare because the duration is just 2 hours.

Verdict:Disappointing
