The Jayasurya-directed Mohanlal-starrer Angel John is in all compliments a film for the fans of Mohanlal. And if making films for such die-hard fans is no crime, then director jayasury has almost done a well job, though there isn't anything new on offer in the film, which has shades of some past films by the same actor.

The story of the movie is a mix of fantasy and reality. Maradona is the only son of Joseph, a bank employee. Though he was reared with maximum care, conveniences and fortunes, Maradona turned out to become a kind of spoilt brat who was never able to execute his parent’s ambitions. He couldn't even pass his B Com exam even after many sessions. He had a friend in sofiya, but somehow he was declining into newer problems whenever he was try for something different but fail and attempt to suicide But some miracles happen. He gets an opportunity to choose from an ordinary life or another life with all his fantasies accomplished at the cost of two by third of his life.Which will he choose and what happens to him is what make viewers follow the story. The story cannot be said to be groundbreaking but the mode of telling and the scenes stands above expectation of audience.

The film rooted in the youth itself has a pretty thin story line. But Jayasury   has finally managed to convert the flick into a acceptable fare. The director is spot on the little subject, he had and races to the final with the help of fine cuts by Ajayan Vincent. The screenplay and dialogues by jayasury flesh out the characters of this thin concept, with not many deviations. The later half is more impressive, but with too many cliches, that makes the flick a predictable stuff.

Mohanlal is calm as John alias Angel and plays well to satisfy his fans in all ways. Santhanu as Maradona fits well in to the role. Nithya as Sofiya is ok but has precious little to do. The shortcoming of the script is that it doesn’t have many hilarious moments, funny sequences, punch lines or witty one liner. Jagathi and Biju try to bring in chuckles but fails more than often. Lalu Alex as Joseph  and Ambika  as Maradona’s mother is in there usual self while a bunch of others  completes the castline as there parts.

There is nothing much to say about the technical aspects or the songs, both of which are just average fare. Ajayan Vincent support jayasury behind the camera. The background score by Ouseppachan also give the needed impetus on many scenes, lifting   it to the needed moods.
