Alexander The Great starring 'Mohanlal' graced into theatres keeping a low profile and that seemed to have affected it's Box Office run too. After a not-so impressive outing in "Wanted", Murali Nagavalli joins in hands with Mohanlal again, but this time presenting him in the lead role.

The movie starts off with the death of Prathapa Varma(Saikumar), rich businessmen, and his relations aiming to capture his wealth. But the will showed it belongs to his step-son, Alexander, who is mentally abnormal and others can cash it only if he is dead. Manu(Bala), Prathapa Varma's legal son, is in need of money tries to seek the wealth from Alexander with the help of his uncle(Jagadheesh).

As the title suggest, Alexander is great as he can even learn a telephone directory completely over a night. The movie entirely focuses on the unique characterization of Mohanlal as Alexander who behaves like a programmed computer. His daily routine is a s follows- needs blue shirt in afternoon, white shirt at night, 4 chappathi's for dinner, followed by watching TV for 1 hour ,a book reading before the sleep and Alexander is adamant unless he gets those and follows the path.

What makes the movie interesting to an extend is undoubtedly Mohanlal's performance as the normally abnormal genius-Alexander the Great. His kiddish behavior and combination scenes with Jagadheesh evokes laughter which leads to viewers keeping more focussed on seeing his next antics rather than the story. Bala has put up a good show and rest of the cast including Jagadheesh, Siddique, Ganesh Kumar, SaiKumar were as usual. Jagadheesh started off on a boring note with his slapstick style but came good as the movie proceeded.

What lets the movie down is the technical aspects- Direction and Script being the weakest link as the story reminds you of Rajamanikam and presentation lacked the momentum post-interval. The title song and BGM is very good but all other aspects falls flat. A director like Fazil in the 1990's could have handled this subject better and malayalam audience would have got something new to watch out for.

To sum up, nothing is great except Mohanlal as Alexander in "Alexander the Great". Just watch out for Mohanlal's performance and there is nothing else to keep the viewers hooked on.
