The team behind the historic Oru Vadakkan Veeragatha is all set to take us back in time again with an enthralling tale of valour and heroism. Yes, superstar Mammootty, noted writer M.T. Vasudevan Nair and acclaimed director Hariharan are back again with Pazhassi Raja.Pazhassi Raja tells the story of the legendary ruler and warrior Pazhassi Raja, popularly known as the Lion of Kerala, who took on the British in the forests of Malabar in the 18th century.
The truce remained in force only for a very short time as the British broke the terms of the truce after having gained power over the South. This time too, the Raja revolted. But this time, he was defeated and took refuge in the forest with his family. By 1804, the British took over the Raja's properties and announced a reward on his head. After a stiff resistance, the Raja was finally shot down in 1805, thus becoming a martyr.
The shooting of the film has been constantly dragging for the last two year due to unseasonal heavy rains, clashes in the dates of the artists and the accidental death of two crew members. However, megastar Mammootty, who was determined to complete the movie as early as possible, had recently earmarked nearly three weeks to complete the final schedule at Madikkeri in Karnataka.
Thanks to Mammootty's efforts, the entire shoot is now over.Mammootty, who had played the hero in Hariharan's previous historical venture Oru Vadakkan Veeragatha (1989), plays the title role as Pazhassi Raja, while Suman plays the villain Pazhaiveetan Chandu. Tamil actor Sarathkumar plays Edachena Kunkan, the chief lieutenant of Pazhassi Raja. Others in the cast are Padmapriya, Kanihaa, Manoj K. Jayan, Thilakan, Jagathi Sreekumar, Suresh Krishna and Kalabhavan Mani.
The post production work is to begin in Chennai. Music maestro Ilayaraja has scored music to the lyrics written by poet O.N.V. Kurup in this film, produced by Gokulam Gopalan with a whopping budget of more than 10 crores. The Oscar winner Rasul Pookutty will design sound for his first Malayalam movie "Pazhaasi Raja. According to a relevant source the key battle scenes in the film will now be recreated using Resul's technical expertise. With Resul's contribution this classic will definitely have a magnum opus image and the sound is all set to soar to greater heights.
The film is expected to release world wide by this Ramzan.
