No scope for 'Mathilukalkkappuram' - Adoor Gopalakrishnan.

Sequel movies are the new trend in Malluwood as many of the hit movies have been re created in the recent past.Megastar Mammootty is all set to join the sets of a 'Mathilukalkkappuram', a period movie directed by debutante Prasad.

This  movie is planned as a sequel to national award winning movie ‘Mathilukal’ directed by Adoor Gopalakrishnan. When asked about 'Mathilukalkkappuram' ,veteran director Mr Adoor Gopalakrishnan told to cinebuzz - 'Three is no scope for such a movie,since 'Mathilukal' was complete in the first part itself''. He then added that the creators of the sequel may be trying to utilize the fame and popularity of the movie'Mathilukal' and it's characters.'Mthilukal', which got 4 National awards in 1990 was based on the novel with the same title by Vaikkam Muhammad Basheer It is one of the most cherished and well-known love stories in Malayalam.The portrayal of Basheer by Mammootty, is regarded as one of the finest performances in Indian Cinema.
