Another impressive year for the Malayalam cinema industry has passed. Out of 85 films released, only 15 films managed to sail through in which some of them are super hits, hits average hits and reached break even.
The winners in the box office are -
Blockbuster: Pokkiri Raja, Super Hits: Kaarystan,Pappy Appacha, In Ghosthouse Inn,Elsamma Enna Aankutty Hits: Happy Husbands, Mummy and Me, Kadha Thudarunnu, ,Pranchiyetten and the Saint, Best Actor,Malarvaadi Arts Club, Average Hits: Sakudumbam Shymala, Shikkar,BodyGuard and Apoorvaragam made profits

Mammootty has three hits with debutant directors Viashakh (Pokkiriraja) and Martin Prakkattu (Best Actor). Drona by Shaji Kialash and Pramani by B Unnikrishan have failed in box office. Ranjith's 'Pranchiyettan and the Saint' was a different attempt which made profit and got good appreciation.
Mohanlal's family action entertainer, ''Shikkar' was his only profitable project in 2010. Other movies -Janakan,Orunall Varum, Alexander The Great and Kandahar made the audience disappointed.
Dileep's 'Pappi Appacha' and Karyasthan' were hits and 'Body Guard' by Siddique made profit.Agathan by veteran director Kamal was an average grosser. Jayaram's 'Four Friends' was flop while 'Kadhathudarnnu' and 'Happy Husbands' were hits..Prithvi in fact gave a good beginning in the year with Pokkiri Raja. But his much expected films 'Anwar' and 'The Thriller' made average business.

Kunchakko Boban has made a tremendous come back with Laljose’s Elsamma Enna Aankutty' and Jithu Joseph’s Mummy and Me. The other films that became average earners were Kunchakko Boban’s film Sakudumbam Shyamala, Sureshgopi's Sahasram, and Jayasury's Currency. Even superstar films like Dhrona and Alexander the Great was not able to open to good initials which are proving to be a crisis signal to the entire industry. The low prepublication and the lack of print publicity have resulted in bad fare of many movies that could have been break evens.
Among the heroines veteran actress Urvashi, Aan Augstine and Swetha Menon earned laurels. Directors Renjith, Martin Prakttu,Vyshakaha and Thomson remained in the limelight for the terrific results of their films
Television right of the films have been increased to a great extent this year. Even an ordinary budget Malayalam film can manage half of its production costs from channel and DVD rights. The tie up made with corporate houses like Relianace was another major development in Malluwood.
